In March, the last diesel-powered Volvo (a blue XC90) rolled off the assembly line, bound for the World of Volvo museum in Gothenburg, and travelling into history. At Volvo Cars Dublin, we’re a little sad to see the end of an era. Diesel Volvo vehicles were very popular with customers and with us. But to move forward, sometimes you have to cut ties with the past.
The end of the diesel engine is part of Volvo’s commitment to clean, sustainable vehicles and the transition away from the venerable internal combustion engine. This is both what is good for the environment and what Volvo customers want. Our most popular models these days are mild hybrid vehicles like the XC90 and XC40, Plug-in Hybrid vehicles like the XC60 Recharge and S90 Recharge, and electric vehicles (EVs) like the C40 and XC40 Recharge Pure Electric.
In the effort to provide customers with the most cutting-edge electric vehicles, Volvo has recently announced a partnership with Breathe Battery Technologies, becoming the first automotive manufacturer to gain access to the latest version of Breathe’s patented, algorithm-based charging software. Combined with Volvo Cars’ in-house developed battery management platform, the Breathe software will help optimize and improve the performance of charging technologies, providing Volvo customers with even faster charging times and an enhanced overall driving and charging experience.
Volvo’s commitment to the future is already being recognized. The all-new, highly-anticipated EX30, slated for delivery in mid-2024, was recently recognized at the prestigious World Car Awards. Announced at the New York International Auto Show, the mission of the World Car Awards is to “recognize, reward and inspire automotive excellence, leadership and innovation in a rapidly changing automotive industry on a global scale”. The EX30 was voted the 2024 World Urban Car by a panel of over 100 global jurors.
The Volvo EX30 will join the EX90 as part of the next generation of Volvo vehicles. The EX90 is the full-sized flagship which has also received accolades, while the EX30 delivers big electric performance in a small package. So while it is sad to say goodbye to the last of the Volvo diesel vehicles, we are excited to welcome the future.
We invite you to visit Volvo Cars Dublin. We serve the local communities of Fremont, Tracy, San Ramon, and beyond, and are excited to share what’s current and what’s coming.
