The phrase “game changer” seems overused these days. But when we at Volvo Cars Dublin first heard about the all-new Volvo EX90, we knew it was going to be a huge step forward for the automotive industry.
Fast Company, the leading media company whose focus is on progressive, world-changing commercial creativity, agrees. They recently named the Volvo EX90 as a finalist in their 2023 Innovation by Design Awards. More than just praising excellence, the Innovation by Design awards recognizing those products and companies who enrich the lives of their users and customers.
The Volvo EX90 is a clear choice for this accolade. It was crafted with three objectives in mind: to establish an eco-friendly vehicle both in its manufacturing and performance; to pioneer a new chapter of safety in the automotive world; and to create a comfortable driving experience for seven without sacrificing luxury.
As the new flagship of the Volvo line, the EX90 SUV demonstrates Volvo’s commitment to being an environmentally conscious car company. The EX90 will join Volvo’s stable of green vehicles which include mild hybrid vehicles (MHEV), plug in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles, and all-electric Recharge EV models.
Designed from the ground up, the EX90 features Volvo’s latest electric battery and motor technology. It will have an estimated range of 300 miles, have a fast charging time (10-80 percent in about 30 minutes), produce over 400 horsepower, and zero tailpipe emissions.
Volvo knew that to be truly environmentally conscious, they had to change their manufacturing processes and materials. To this end, the interior of the EX90 is made from natural, recycled, and renewable sources while upholding the high standards of luxury customers want from Volvo cars and SUVs.
Safety is the heritage of all Volvo vehicles. When the engineers began designing the EX90, they worked tirelessly to make it the next evolution in automotive safety. They focused on making the EX90 as “smart” as possible to avoid dangerous situations. The EX90 boasts one long-range lidar sensor, five radars, eight cameras, and 16 ultrasonic sensors standard. These give drivers more time to react and avoid potentially hazardous situations. The EX90 understands both the driver and road conditions, adjusts for distracted or tired drivers, and learns driver behaviors to protect all within the vehicle.
At its core, the EX90 is a luxury SUV. That means no concessions could be made to the richness of its comfort, look, and aesthetics. This demanded a combination of innovative thinking and intelligent engineering – both areas in which Volvo has a strong track record. The EX90 offers seating for seven, providing ample space for both family and friends within an exceptionally modern, supremely comfortable, and luxurious setting. The interior of the EX90 can even be customized with seven different “rooms” to match your mood.
Being named a Fast Company 2023 Innovation by Design Awards finalist is an honor but just the start of Volvo Cars’ journey to revolutionize the automotive industry. The EX90 is the standard bearer but will soon be followed by the all-new EX30 SUV. It’s offers similar sustainability and safety innovations but in a compact size and will be Volvo’s most economical foray into the electric car market.
Volvo will continue to offer drivers the choice of range and driving experience with eco-friendly mild hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and fully electric Recharge models.
